What is covered in a consultation?

Consultations are an opportunity to ask questions, tour the space, and go over an informational booklet with our admin. This provides you with an obligation-free appointment to discuss your questions, and provide you with information about midwifery care. We enjoy getting to meet you and you family, so please feel free to bring a any partner(s) or friends who may be deeply involved with your prenatal and postpartum care.

During consultations we generally discuss:

  1. Your previous pregnancy and birth experiences (if any)
  2. Your estimated due date (which we will help you identify if you don’t know)
  3. Whether midwifery care is a good option for you
  4. The services we provide

Consultations generally last 30 minutes, and we allow plenty of time for you and your family to express any concerns or questions. This time is intended to help you decide if your needs and desires for your pregnancy match the type of care that we can provide.

Preparing for consultations

Though not required, preparing some information to bring with you to the initial consultation visit can be helpful. This information might include:

  • Any previous health records related to this pregnancy (if you have already seen another care provider or had lab work done elsewhere etc). These records form at our office and we will request them for you.
  • A list of questions you and your family have (it can be hard to remember to ask all your questions during the appointment, so having a list prepared in advance is helpful).

Transferring care mid-pregnancy

Our practice is happy to accept transfers of care from other providers on a case-by-case basis. We understand that situations may arise mid-pregnancy which cause the need to seek out another care provider and, we are happy to offer midwifery care to clients who desire our services. Feel free to contact us and schedule a free consultation to discuss transferring care!

*Note: If you are transferring care late in your pregnancy please attempt to request your current pregnancy’s medical records before you consult with us. This allows us to see your paperwork, pregnancy history, and previous visits so we may better advise you during your consultation as to whether transferring into our care is a good option for you.
